Adaptation of City Block, Leicester

Year: 2011
Status: completed
Project Type: Master planning – conversion of existing Grade II listed building block
Cost: undisclosed

We carried out a structural and historical analysis to an existing Grade II listed building block in the centre of Leicester which was formerly the registry office. The complex of buildings was believed to be constructed between the late 1800s and early 20th century. Historic drawings of the building block were uncovered from county archives which form the basis of the study. The structures were then analyzed by on site inspection and drawings to identify modification, alterations and additions throughout this century.

Following the analysis, we also carried out a master planning exercise to convert these existing listed structures for alterative uses. Preliminary drawings were produced to show possible method of conversions to residential units to the upper floors which reflect the historic nature of these buildings and respect their historic appearances, fixtures and fittings that embedded amongst them.
